New Media Facilities

Owen Hall Studios, Galleries & Labs
New Media is located in Owen Hall on UNC Asheville’s beautiful mountain campus. Here, the New Media facility, which opened in 2022, was custom-designed by faculty to meet the needs of the department, including bespoke labs and studios that students and faculty use to produce, create + edit dynamic projects.

Two 20-seat Mac teaching labs designed in-the-round.

Fabrication lab with 3D printers, laser cutter, waterjet, digital embroidery, and glass facilities.

Stop Motion animation studio.
- Video/VR/Motion capture studio.
- 2-Station editing suite.

670 square-foot gallery space with 4-wall projection capabilities.

Project space for student installation and Senior Capstone projects.

Photo Studio

Photo Studio
Camera gear, tripods, lighting, backdrops, a couch, etc. Additionally, the New Media, department has a variety of digital video and audio equipment, lighting kits, and digital cameras available for New Media student checkout.
Fabrication Studio

Fabrication Studio
A lab for making things, all the tools, vent hood, big table, spray adhesive, fire extinguisher, etc. Available to all NM students by appointment.
Video Production Studio

Video Production Studio
Consists of 2 iMac Quad-Core computer stations, each with an additional 30″ Apple Cinema Display, 2 Wacom Cintiqs, and a 5.1 surround sound system. This suite has also been soundproofed for use as a recording studio. Upper level video and computer animation students with their instructor’s permission may obtain the access to the lab.
Computer Labs

Computer Labs
Each lab is equipped with 20 Intel Quad-Core iMac computers, each with a full array of software and an additional Apple LCD Cinema Display and Wacom tablet. There is a built-in 5.1 surround sound system and HD video projector in each lab for new media presentations. Access to the lab is controlled and only students enrolled in New Media courses are permitted to use the facility.
